Business and Leadership Today
Emotional Agility and Untapped Resources
In effective Leadership, as with parenting, it is crucial to master the skills that empower the innate strengths of others and to communicate in a way that inspires participation and encourages innovation if you are going to succeed in a tough market.
Personal and non-verbal awareness and use of energy/communication coupled with emotional agility are key factors in sustaining a healthy and prosperous organization. In these days of economic volatility, personal energy can frequently be unbalanced and most people in our culture were never taught the subtle skills of awareness in order to reach their true potential especially in times of great stress.
It is now commonly recognized that only ten percent of human communication is verbal, yet in our culture, we have effectively become reliant on words as our social and educational systems teach us to dissociate from the body, the environment and the subtle nuances of nonverbal communication. In the book, The Other 90%: How to Unlock your Vast Potential for Leadership and Life, Robert K. Cooper predicts that the "dinosaurs of the future will be those who keep trying to live and work from their heads alone. Much of human brilliance is driven less by the brain in your head than by newly discovered intelligence centers ... 'brain two and brain three'-in the gut and the heart. The highest reasoning and brightest ingenuity involve all three of those brains working together."
The studies being done at the Institute of Heartmath have found that the heart is the most powerful generator of electromagnetic energy in the human body, producing the largest rhythmic electromagnetic field of any of the body's organs. They have substantiated that the heart's electrical field is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the electrical activity generated by the brain. The magnetic field produced by the heart is more than 5,000 times greater in strength than the field generated by the brain, and can be detected a number of feet away from the body, in all directions. Nonverbal messages, a virtually untapped resource of communication, are being emitted all the time and prey animals are adept masters of reading and teaching this insightful awareness.
"A tremendous boost in self-esteem and confidence comes from learning how to establish boundaries and direct a thousand pound creature through mental focus, presence and clarity of intent." said Linda Kohanov, Internationally recognized innovator of Equine Experiential Learning "These skills, which can be difficult to teach in a conventional classroom, business coaching, or counseling session, have far ranging applications linked to increased success in personal relationships, career and parenting." Through a series of specially designed experiential activities, participants become more attuned to the subtle energetic fields of nonverbal communication and also learn to deepen their awareness of personal challenges, core feelings and areas of bodily tension that inhibit their ability to reach their true potential.
